On my way back from my summer holiday on Hvar I spent a weekend in Geneva to top it off. Brilliant idea because there is nothing like a clean, organised, peaceful destination after a bit of a crazy trip in South East Europe. The local market was selling some really good roast chicken sandwiches, and potatoes smothered in Swiss cheese. As expected it’s a pricey city but with great flight connections to Belgrade, good cheese & stunning scenery I’ll be paying it another visit soon.

I am losing track of all my weekend getaways, so its either my 4th or 5th time in France this year, and this trip has been extraordinary for many reasons! One casual Friday after work, I took the train to Paris and a short trip later I was in the city of love, lights, food - all of the above. From Paris we slowly made our way to the north a different kind of D Day couldn’t be avoided, you know when you can no longer move, breathe or sit up straight how much butter, wine, cream, cheese and delicious meat you’ve had. It was heavenly and I tried Calvados the renowned northern apple brandy, delicious unpasteurized cheeses and of course the SHELLFISH! Crowning glory of the queen of Normandy, Deauville has some of the best seafood in Europe if not the world. I cant help myself but TRY and explain how delicious the butter from this region was, as expected and it smells almost fruity and tastes slightly sweet and whipped. It might not be everyone cup of tea but what knocked my socks off was the boudin noir, or black pudding sauteed in the local butter and then smothered on to a fresh delicious baguette… priceless.

The scenery overall is lush and green since the region gets lots of rain, but we scored a weekend of 20C plus, perfect for a autumn beach day. Oh yes and the cider… well it’s fresh, fruity but not too sweet and when you drive around you spot countless orchids with apple’s still heavily weighing down the branches. What else did I try… cepe mushrooms, mussels, crabs, oysters, rib eye, foie gras, st nectaire, tomme de savoie, creme fraiche, tarte aux pommes, langouistine…list goes on believe or not! Which might explain why I am not hungry right now, after a day full of meetings where I forgot to have lunch.

Deauville is one heck of a retirement idea, the wealthy Parisians are not naive at all when they pick this place to kick back and get away from the city. It is posh and fancy on a whole new level… because they make it look so darn effortless! Even the pets are posh, I saw trendy young guy carrying a fresh croissant and walking his dog, only to realize the little dog had a croissant in his mouth!!! He seemed almost confused by my bewilderment :) So basically I just left Normandy and I am already day dreaming about going back via Paris. Highly highly recommended destination for any food obsessed globe trotter.

Thanks to work I spent a week in Madrid this spring, and finally got to visit the famous food market. I tried some standard octopus, cheese, churros, oysters and of course Goose barnacles which ended up being my favorite, expensive & tasty! If you like oysters and the fresh taste of the sea, then you are likely to be a fan of these little crustacean’s as well. The percebes I tried were from the cold waters of Galicia. I would go back to Madrid in a heartbeat, it is one of my favorite destinations so far, and its no wonder that food has something to do with it. I had a few too many sea urchin tapas as well :) and what made it pretty exciting for me was the fact that I could get around with my slightly broken Spanish perfectly and practice, I learned a few new words and after a few days noticed improvements. It was great! More posts on Madrid to come…

As Ned Stark said winter is coming! And today the doomy and gloomy sky for some strange reason makes me really happy. Where else could I be (apart from bed which would be great) than in the office, typing away, in meeting rooms talking about industry leading business ideas, and spending time with experts in the field. So it turns out I am really looking forward to winter! A few snapshots of last year’s season to be marry reminded me of some lovely things to come. London decorations will start going up soon and the SALES ohhh the shopping sales! I spent quite allot of time in New York last year, and realized just how much better London fashion really is :)

I’m on a mission to start capturing memories of all these trips I have made since I moved to London and having booked another flight to Belgrade I remembered a beautiful weekend I spent there in May this year. Peggy in the corner there who is now a 14 yr old Aussie Maltese living in Serbia was dragging me around town, from one cafe to the next. May was warm, sunny, and cafe gardens were buzzing. But then again when are they not buzzing, one thing the Serbs do well is… well nothing. They have perfected the art of enjoying a day, taking it easy and sipping one coffee after another while chit chatting for hours. It makes me think how I usually have my latte.. standing, while walking, in front of a screen, in a meeting, rushing from A to B. With the Christmas break around the corner I will need to practice this secret art of relaxation with Peggy by my side.

We all checked in and realised we weren’t in the same place as requested, while whining to the guy at reception about it his internet wasn’t working so there we were in Dublin… City Center… and I hear the receptionist go U PIČKU MATERINU! There’s a place I never thought I’d hear a Serbian swear word in for sure! The 1920’s engagement party was one to remember that night👌

New Terminal is looking pretty slick in London! I landed there last night from Dublin and realized how lucky we are here to have 5 airports… Heathrow has got to be my favorite of course 15mins on the express train from home, nice, clean, great lounges you name it!

my first ever Notting hill carnival was an event to remember, I went in on the Sunday before the bank holiday and wanted to visit the Serbian church in the area. Unfortunately several police man stopped me from entering, to my surprise it was donated for a day to the police force to use as a outpost for security purposes in Notting Hill. So the cop said… ‘unless you want to confess in front of 200 policeman inside I suggest you come back another day!’ :) Amazing jerk chicken, Caribbean food, cold beer and music blasting all around - highly recommend a visit. But take note to try and get out of there early enough before the crowds get a rowdy…

Sunset in morocco…spring time yet it was still over 47C. We sipped on some sweet mint tea overlooking the market, and witnessed a fight take place below. A mother was furiously beating her teenage son who kicked a basket of dates she was selling!
